    WORKSHOP: Alexander Technique for Musicians with Fanny Wyrick-Flax

    Alexander Technique offers practical tools for musicians to prevent injury, support career longevity, and enhance artistic expression. In this workshop, you will learn to identify unhelpful habits and make conscious choices in breathing, movement, and performance.

    Guest composers John Mackey, Felipe Lara, and Milena Casado join ECP composer-in-residence Allison Loggins-Hull for a conversation about the many paths and realities of life as a composer. With experience spanning jazz, orchestral writing, academia, wind ensemble, and self-publishing, they offer candid insight into the diverse, and often unpredictable, landscape of today’s music world.

    ECP WORKSHOP: Composer Presentations - Sharing Your Voice

    In a series of short lecture-demonstrations, ECP fellows will introduce their work and artistic identity to peers and mentors. Each presentation will begin with an artist statement, offering insight into your creative perspective. This is an opportunity to practice public speaking, build confidence in articulating your ideas, and connect more deeply as a community of composers.

    WORKSHOP: Mark Dover - Improvisation for Classical Musicians

    As classical musicians, the hardest aspect to approaching improvisation is taking that first step off the page when you just don’t know what to play. This workshop seeks to undo that mental block we all initially have through simple group exercises, touching on concepts like modes, pentatonics and groove.

Dive into extended techniques, creative uses of auxiliary instruments, and practical orchestration strategies. By listening to, analyzing, and discussing modern scores, fellows will gain insight into the expressive and textural possibilities of woodwinds in the 21st century.

    Finishing a piece is just the beginning. In this session, we’ll explore what it takes to navigate the next steps as an early-career composer: getting your music performed, published, and heard. Through open discussion of real-world challenges, practical strategies, and evolving industry norms, we’ll reflect on the work you’ve created and map out how to keep building momentum beyond this summer.
